Hello Friends, this next recipe “Meat Pie”. A meat pie is a flavorful pie with a filling of meat and other savory ingredients. It is usually made of beef, pork, or lamb. The first meat pie were thought to be made in Ancient Greece. They were called “Artocreas”, and were simply a pastry crust, into which cooked meat was spooned. Enjoy this great meat recipe with your family.
Ingredients:
Filling:
500 grams steak mince
2 tbsp of celery
1 onion, chopped
1 teaspoon salt
2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
1 tbsp pepper
pinch mixed herbs
60 ml water
2 tablespoons plain flour
3 tablespoons water extra
Pastry:
1 cup plain flour
6 tablespoons butter
1 cup self raising flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
80 ml cold water
Directions:
Filling:
Put the mince, onion, celery, garlic; seasonings and water in a saucepan, cook over medium heat, stir often until the meat is cooked.
Blend the 2 tablespoons of plain flour with the extra water and stir into the meat to thicken. Set apart.
Pastry:
Sift the flours, salt and stroke in butter until it looks like breadcrumbs.
Make a hole in the middle and add water while stirring with a knife.
Put the dough on a floured surface and knead until smooth.
Split it into two pieces, one a bit smaller and roll out the larger to fit a pie plate (20cm).
Fill with the meat mixture.
Wet the edge of the pie and roll out the rest of the pasty to fit the top. Cover the mince and press the edges together.
Make a small hole in the middle for the steam to escape and brush with milk.
Bake at 425° for 30 minutes or until it goes golden on top.
