Cook Time: 25 minutes
Level: Easy
Serving: 24 pieces
The following recipe is a delicious appetizer cheese, made with mozzarella cheese sticks and bread crumbs. Mozzarella cheese is a sliceable curd cheese originating in Italy. The process of making mozzarella is called pasta filata, which means the curds are heated in water or whey until they form strings and become elastic in texture.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound Mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
- 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 large eggs, beaten
- 3/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
- vegetable oil
Directions:
In a deep fryer melt about 2 to 3 inches of oil over high heat; continue to heat until temperature reaches 365.
Place the flour in a bowl, and beat the eggs.
Place the seasoned bread crumbs in another bowl.
One at a time, roll each mozzarella stick in the flour, dip in the eggs, then coat thoroughly with the bread crumbs. Set on a waxed paper-lined baking sheet.
Cook the sticks until golden brown, about 3 minutes.
Using a slotted spoon, transfer to paper towel-lined baking sheet and keep warm.
Serve immediately.
Personal suggestion: Serve with a honey mustard sauce, accompany with bread and wine.
