Chocolate is made from the beans of the cocoa tree. The first civilisation understood to have grown cocoa beans was the Olmec Indians around 1500 BC. Cocoa beans were used by the Aztec civilisation to make a frothy, hot drink and chocolate itself was revered for its special vitality and wisdom giving properties.
Ingredients:
- 250 ml milk
- 250 ml double/heavy cream
- 75 g sugar
- 125 g plain chocolate (grated)
Directions:
Place the milk and sugar into a saucepan and heat gently, dissolving the sugar.
Put the milk to one side to cool and when cold, stir in the cream.
Transfer the mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze following the manufacturer’s instructions, however remember to add the grated chocolate as the ice cream begins to thicken.
If you like chocolate chip ice cream, combine it with chocolate chip cookies and make your own ice cream sandwiches.
Personal suggestion: Serve this ice cream with cookies and hot chocolate sauce.
